We’re not gardeners!

March 21, 2011

in simple living

The pictures say it all really. We’re not big garden people and the thought of an apartment in Portugal with a small balcony and a couple of plant pots is sounding quite good at the moment.

The pictures also show what happens if you neglect your garden woodwork. One minute the shed was intact, the next there’s a big hole and the wood is on the floor.

I’m thinking that posting these pictures on my site will increase the chances of us improving all the above areas………..we might even finally finish painting the fence, which has been work in progress for two years!

And then there’s the rockery in picture one which is over run with bramble and grass! What can I say, when it comes to gardens I can procrastinate with the best of them.

So hands up. Who likes gardening? :)

I want to be a gardener type person, does that count?
I have a black thumb. I should be proud it is the only thing that has been passed down from generation to generation in our family.

I have a black thumb. I don’t do any yard work and we have quite a large one. Son cuts the grass but there is no landscaping done. Would love to see it beautiful, but not worth my effort to get it so!

We’ve always had a garden/yard and while we enjoy getting vegetables and berries from our garden during the summer, we no longer enjoy all the maintenance that goes with having a garden/yard, including fence and deck maintenance. And I say “we” lightly – I’ve never been a real gardener (a result of my dad making me and my siblings work in the garden when we wanted to be out with our friends or reading a book. I grew to loathe gardening).

My husband and I are in agreement that our next home will be a condo or cottage with no yard, but a patio or balcony where we have plants in containers.

@Laura, patio/balcony and plants in containers sounds like a plan to me :)

I do and I don’t – I always get off to a great start but then I tend to neglect things once they’re planted. Since I’ve had the trailer I am doing better mainly because I only plant perennials and they pretty much look after themselves:)

I love it. I have a sickness when it comes to pulling weeds. Once I start, it’s hard for me to stop. My perennial beds are way too large now. It takes a long time to keep them under control these days though. I look forward to winter by the end of gardening season. I don’t have enough sun to do a veggie patch, but that’s where my mom picks up the slack.
