I blogged about getting into the garden in April and it’s taken until now to make a little progress. We’re trying to get it back to (almost) zero so that it’s low maintenance; I have fence painting pencilled in for August and once that’s completed we can start to do little jobs inside the house.
We haven’t decided on a definite plan for our house yet, but we do like the idea of renting it out in the future.
Moneywise we’re still living frugally and saving as much as we can every month; I’m trying not to think about money all the time but it’s a big part of this journey. I’ve been reading the archives of this (UK) blog as it has some excellent (easy to understand) advice on investing and growing your money.
What have you been up to this week?

It’s hard not to think of money all the time… but when it makes our lives go round, ya have to think about it. LOL. You’re doing great keeping your goals. Even when frustration comes across you’ve pulled yourself back up nicely.
Keep it up. You have some wonderful goals to achieve!
This weekend? I spent quality time with family, friends and good food. Nothin’ much better than that!
No! That’s not the way to move on – thinking about money round the clock may eventually turn out to have a negative impact! But as you have advised earlier – just make a budget plan & stick to it. One must think of her budget inside a departmental store. Otherwise, it is better to enjoy the beauties of the nature, or the people around you.
The weekend was great for me – I had lots of pending tasks that I have been able to finish up finally!
I have also decided to make frequent weekend travels – as I have found this change helps me to focus more at my work during weekdays.
What do you say?
Getting the garden back to low maintenance sounds like a plan. I moved into my current house in summer 2004, and one of the first things I did was “sort the garden”. For 5 years all I had to do was cut the grass, which took all of 15 minutes – fantastic! However, this year I’ve actually been improving the garden a lot. I’ve been shocked at how much getting plants in has cost in terms of time and money. The good news is the work is mostly done, and extra maintenance required should not be excessive. Hopefully the payback will come when I sell the house – the front is looking a LOT more attractive now, and the back garden too. It has been a surprisingly satisfying activity! I don’t consider myself to be a gardener, but it is growing on me (pun not intended).
This last weekend was the first for a while when I haven’t been gardening. On Sunday my daughter was at Guilfest and my son at work, so I spent a fantastic day reading (weather wasn’t great here). I’d bought Getting a Life for $1 on Amazon (hardback and good as new), and tackled that, it’s a fairly hefty tome. It’s the follow up to the highly recommended book by Joe Dominguez, Your Money or Your Life. This one is by Jacqueline Blix and David Heitmiller, a husband and wife team who followed the steps. In short this book covers how Jacqueline and David changed their lives through the steps, there also a lot of other cases described. So far it’s great!
