…and making a mistake.

Last December in a moment of madness I had my fairly high maintenance hair style replaced with a shortish crop to save money. Bad idea. Which I still regret. I was thinking that getting it cut short would save money on haircuts as it would take ages to grow back.
One word: Stupid.
This is an example of me taking frugality too far, because I hate my hair every time I look at it.
All is not lost though as the fringe is growing back, and in a month or two I’ll be able to splash out the £35 and get my hair back. Thankfully.
Have you every regretted a decision in the name of frugality?

Important things like hair, perfume and mascara should never be skimped on. They are the small things that can make us feel like a million dollars everyday. All about perceived value rather than monetary value I think.

@Amy, you’re right. I forgot how much happier I feel with a good haircut.

I don’t skimp on toilet paper, lol! I don’t buy the most expensive, but I won’t buy the cheapest! Also, I dye my own hair, but I buy the best dye Walmart has and use the same brand everytime. Hubby tried to hand me a $3 box of dye once. I flat out said NO WAY. I am not chancing my hair on saving $7!
Glad your hair will be where you like it soon! Will make you feel better for sure!

@Bernice I hadn’t realised up until now but my hair can do without fancy shampoo etc but not without a great cut. I’m too scared to dye my own hair so I let the grey shine through, lol

The good thing is that it does grow back, even if it seems to take forever.
I get upset when I try to make something cheaper than just buying it and it doesn’t work out and I spend even more money by buying the thing anyway. Like I attempted to make a crib set when my children were born. All that time and money wasted.

@ Lizzie that’s really brave cutting your own hair….I wouldn’t dare!

I am growing my hair *out* to save money (because I can let it go for six months without cutting). Also I stopped dyeing it, although I’m considering a home kit for a few subtle highlights in front. Will budget for a “fix” if need be.
But some things are not worth skimping on. I would rather go without, than wear bad perfume (although I’m perfectly happy with relatively inexpensive essential oils). I will skimp on just about anything except a very few food brands for which there is no substitute, and also I will spend a reasonable sum on shoes which I’ll wear often (reasonable being around $50 or so).

@Daphne You’re right about going without rather than buying bad. Shoes and coffee spring to mind! I’m so frugal with everything so I really should cit myself some slck with my haircuts
