The following is a guest post;
Portugal has now become one of the most popular destinations
anywhere on the continent and when you look at what’s on offer it’s easy to see
why. From the cosmopolitan city of Lisbon to the luxury beaches of the Algarve,
there really is something for everyone in this fascinating country.
Don’t delay; if you’ve not booked anywhere this summer why
not consider a last minute trip to Portugal? You can buy Euros online
quickly to get your currency sorted and you’ll be on your way. So whether
you’ve booked to go, or are considering it, here are the top five things to do
in Portugal.
Belem Tower
For any list of the top attractions in Portugal, it’s
difficult not to start with Belem. Built in 1515 to protect Lisbon’s harbour,
the Tower was the starting point for many explorers setting off on their voyages
of discovery, as it would have been the last thing they saw when leaving their
homeland. It’s a striking historical monument and an absolute must for any
holiday to Portugal.
Port Tasting
For tourists heading north to the country’s second largest
city, Porto, sampling the local produce is not to be missed. Porto is the
capital of the port industry and is home to well over 30 wine caves offering
tours and tastings for tourists. It would just be rude not to have a taste!
Ponta de Paidade
Ponta de Paidade will literally take your breath away. The
headland is lapped by waters of incredible colour and surrounded by imposing
formations carved in the sheer rock by the sea. You can jump on a boat to
slalom between the sandstone boulders and through a myriad of natural passages.
Hidden between giant cliffs you’ll also find the sandy coves of Praia de Dona and
Praia do Camilo. If you ever wanted proof of Portugal’s natural beauty, this is
certainly it.
Evora
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is found two hours’ drive
from Lisbon and is home to some wonderfully preserved monuments. Found in the
ancient city of Evora, the Temple of Diana is a reminder of the Roman presence
in Portugal. Named after the Roman goddess, Diana, it survived the earthquake
in 1755, was used as a butchers shop during the Middle Ages and was the stage
of executions during the Inquisition.
Costa Vincentina National Park
If you crave awe-inspiring views and picturesque sunsets, a
trip to the Costa Vincentina National Park is one not to be missed. Here you’ll
be able to view one of the most spectacular sunsets you’re ever likely to see.
Sunset may be the most romantic time to come here, but the cape is a sight to
behold at any time of the day.

I would LOVE to visit Portugal. (I wish I didn’t live on the other side of the world – all those lovely places that take over 24 hours flying time and crossing many time zones to get to!)
