This week…the kids edition

in family love

This week has been quite mad. all work and no play makes Laura a sad girl…there must be something in the water as it seems we’ve all been busy. I’ve hardly had any time for blogging and feel I’ve been neglecting the comments department, so I do apologise if I’ve missed anything. I know I’ve been tired, as the grammar on yesterdays blog post was worse than usual.
For a change this week I thought I’d fill you in on what the children have been up to…..with some humour as I’m fed up with all the doom and gloom in the news at the moment.
  • My eldest daughter is safely ensconced in her University room now and has started work at the Student Union bar! This is on campus, so at least I know she hasn’t got far to travel home at night. She rang today to tell me that she’s only spent £10 on food this week, I didn’t ask what she’s been eating, but I bet it’s not her 5 a day.
  • My youngest daughter decided to break her toe playing football on Tuesday, but still insists on playing again today! She’s also got herself a little job coaching primary school girls once a week, which is great as she wants to be a PE teacher. We had a discussion about her wages (£10) and I told her general rule of thumb was to save 50% of your earnings, (lol) she happily agreed. Now if she can carry on with this throughout her adult life she’ll be able to retire at 35.
  • My son, definitely the quietest of my three children has passed his driving test this week, so he’s very happy. He starts university next week, but is living at home for the first year, I think it might be because of my cooking!!
Back to normal posting tomorrow.

So glad they are all doing so well, minus the toe!

There is a good book for Uni students about eating healthy on a budget, also has very basic recipies. Can’t think of the name of it, will let you know when I do. Might be a good idea for a Christmas present!

Hi, I have just happened on your blog and found your thoughts and ideas familiar. Our aim is to join our children (all four) in Australia by 1st July 2014, the day my darling husband turns 65 and can retire.
We started on this path a year ago when our youngest daughter and her family applied to emigrate.
We are seriously working on reducing gas and electricity use as like you it is one area we can control. Food consumption and car use are other areas. Will be reading your blog with interest to see what new ideas you come up with. Thanks for the inspration.

Hi Laura.
Nice to hear your kids are doing great, well, not the broken toe, but everything else.
Cheers.
