If you wanted to simplify the romantic notion behind this blog then it can be illustrated by the two photo’s; we are trying to move from the above to the below. There are several steps you need to put into place if you want to achieve this, and although it’s far from plain sailing, I think, with some carefully thought out planning, it can be done.
This week, I’m going to cover the steps we’ve taken so far to make the dream a reality.

Hello Laura
Well I’ll try again
I have to agree that the photos are a fantastic way to illustrate your point. Moving on from the rat race to a quite morepeaceful life is a great goal and I really hope you achieve it.
Congratulations on beginning the Big Trip fund – they say every little thing helps
Take care
Cathy

Having just come back from a week in the island of Madeira I can definitely give the latter photo a big thumbs up.
Remember though the journey is the reward. When you finally get to Portugal and are relaxing on the beach, you will no doubt remember the “tough” times that you went through to achieve your dream with a lot of affection.
In many ways having a dream and working towards it is one of the greatest things in life as far as I’m concerned.
Looking forward to hearing how your action plan has been going and what you’ve achieved so far!

Your blog has always been one of my favorites, and continues to be. Thanks for the continued inspiration!

Hi Cathy, thank you; I try really hard not to wish the time away too much. It goes far too quickly x
How was Madeira Tony?
Kirwin, thank you. The beach and sunny weather is one of the main attractions of Portugal; are you near the beach where you live?

Hi Laura,
We’re in the San Francisco Bay Area, so the beaches are cold. We want to move further south though, where the beaches are a bit warmer. BTW, I showed these photos to DH, and he has moved Portugal up on our Places to Visit list! ; ) Thanks for inspiring him!

I absolutely love the use of pictures to illustrate your point. Having moved from the top to the bottom myself, I’m reluctant to put myself back in a position where I might be back in the top one. Your pictures have reminded me why we are on our own journey. I’m just hoping we find a way to continue our journey without losing sight of our goal – which I think we have lost ever so slightly lately. So, thank you!
