Taking a Day Off

in thinking out loud

In a previous post Tony left a wonderful comment for me, which deserves its own post, about how he had made time for the things that are important to him; how he always keeps his end goal in mind. I do, do that. I have our end goal in mind 100% of the day, but I also have a million other things. A body is not meant to run at full speed all day, every day. It needs to relax. So today, I’m going to lay on the sofa, watch some TV and do some thinking.

To achieve our dream I need to eliminate the unnecessary and re focus on what I really need to do over the next 1,140 days to get us to Portugal.

Ps. I know Tony suggested cutting down TV watching, but I don’t normally watch it too much, but every now and then it can’t hurt can it?

Funnily enough, Laura, I was thinking of doing exactly the same today. I’m just finishing off reading what’s in my Google Reader, then I’m going to go downstairs with books, magazines and the TV controller, and try to have a lazy day! Enjoy x

Tony’s comment to your post was fantastic and gave us all food for thought but I don’t do a lot on Sundays. I usually do the ironing in the afternoon but other than that it is the bare mimimum of chores, just washing up, preparing meals, washing and other than that I am on the sofa watching T.V. whilst on my laptop.

Thank you for the balance. For every energy packed, hectic moment you experience, there is someone out there who would match your drive with their procrastination, if they could only be bothered. Me. Ying/yang has been preserved.

Chill. Your body will thank you. :)

Did I sound like some kind of slave driver? ;)

Down time is very important, and I think a well-managed schedule has plenty of room for that, and room for flexibility. That’s the point really, management frees up time to enjoy, in the same way that managing your money frees up money to spend how you’d like to.

As I mentioned in my post I do very little “work” over the weekend. This Saturday I took a stroll over at Waverley Abbey with a friend (for film aficionados Waverley Abbey features in 28 Days Later), and also removed a tree that had sadly blown over in the wind.

Sunday I spent with my kids, playing games, watching DVDs and eating food! :)

Nevertheless, last week (Mon-Fri) I spent around 20 hours on income-related personal projects (on top of a forty hour work work).

I wouldn’t feel guilty about having some down time. Hope you had a great weekend! :)

Good for you! I don’t do it often enough, but I DID do some relaxing last week. On thursday, I threw caution to the wind, pulled our my book, and sat in the sun and read, while the kids played around me. It was delicious, and I don’t regret a minute of it.
