Sunday Round Up (Minimalism and Me Edition)

August 14, 2011

in blog love

Good morning!  At first I’d like to say hello and welcome all the new readers (and subscribers) to Move To Portugal.  On Tuesday the contents of my handbag were featured over at The Everyday Minimalist and a lot of people came over for a look around.  So thank you for Serena for the feature, and thank you to everyone who stopped by or sent emails.

I received one email asking me about my minimalism and how I would define my approach to it.  The question really got me thinking and this is what I came up with (with a little background).

My journey [towards minimalism] started when I was trying to pay off my consumer debt and sort of evolved.  Now I would say that I’m part minimalist/part de-clutterer……..a bit of both.  My wardrobe is minimalist, my home is minimalist without being austere (I think!), and I’m slowly working towards a totally clutter free existence in every aspect of my life.  I’ve found the easiest way to do this is to stop buying stuff….which I’m also slowly working on!

Hopefully this answers the question.

Now a little bit about posting on this site.

The schedule for posting over here is quite fluid.  I try to post two/three times during the week and then do a link round up on a Sunday.  I read so many great sites, but try to limit the amount of time I spend online at the weekend and doing huge round ups takes a lot of time, so my round ups are always quite small (like below!)

Link love;

Ha.  Not such a small post today after all :)

Anyway have a great rest of the weekend and thank you for your continued support.

Laura, I never knew that about you! :) ! After cleaning yesterday, I looked around the house and had visions of me putting most of my stuff on e-bay. I had no idea where that thought came from. Maybe I secretly want to become a “minimalist” without, of course, being austere. Stark is not the look I’m trying to achieve. Perhaps I’ll have to start thinking more seriously about it. Thanks for the links to the minimalists sites..I’ll have some interesting reading this morning!

@Sharon I often think about listing nearly everything I own on eBay..and then I realise how less than simple that would be!

Thank you Laura!

We have always not had lots of things, but I think I am more actively getting rid of things than before. I think trying to love a simpler life makes you want to do that.

With 4 kids I’m nowhere near being a “minimalist”, but we have been buying MUCH less! I really need to go through room by room & “Just Do It!”

@Carla I find it hard to control the clutter with just two children at home…I think you do an amazing job already!

Can I just say a super hearty ‘ thank you ‘ for link-loving my post. I was so thrilled when I checked in with you and there my name was. I also love the photo of your landing you have included with this post. Your place looks very calm and peaceful.

@Tasmanian My daughters room is further down the hall and often ruins the peace :) :)

My purse also usually has 1 diaper, wipes, my coupon organizer and a small makeup bag in addition to the times you have. Funny, I usually carry a pen, but not a notepad.
