Do you add your pc/laptop to your list of spring cleaning? I know always forget, so this weekend my one main task is to spring clean and organise my computer.
I know very few things about the ins and outs of computers but I do know, like everything else, your pc or laptop needs a clean and a clear out every now and then; computer people will probably tell you that you should do it a little more often than that! Anyway, I’m very non techy but even with the minimum of knowledge you can do little things to keep your pc/laptop running better, and for longer; cue disclaimer, these are just the steps I take
A simple Internet search will bring up lots of ‘how to’ articles about cleaning your computer and this is one I’ve used previously; after completing all the steps it felt like I was using a different machine, so I’m going to do them all again {and promise myself to do them on a more regular basis}
I’m also going to..
- Organise and save all my photos to disk
- Organise and clear my document files
- Organise and clear my favourites explorer bar
- Organise my Google Reader
What about you, do you do this all the while, do you have any best practise tips to share? Please let me know in the comments

Thanks for the info! I’m a computer geek, but I never seem to clean my computer as much as I should.
I do most of the things on the list at random times. I think creating a schedule would be easier for me though.
One thing I try to do as much as I can is Backups. I’ve been burned a few times so now I backup email, important folders, photos and my blog. I’ve also heard a lot of good things about http://mozy.com/
for backups.
I love spring cleaning time

Such a good idea. I was thinking the other day I need to sort out my inbox – it’s a hot mess of old, pointless emails!

thanks Kat; gmail is really good for organising though; using archive means you can keep stuff but have a clear inbox

I haven’t got round to THAT kind of a Spring clean but I did spend half a day carefully prising off the keys on my laptop keyboard and mopping up the lint (and I dread to think what else – it’s a second hand laptop, after all!) with cotton buds and snapping the keys back in place again. It was a fiddly, lengthy task and not for the faint-hearted but Wow! I feel like I can type now, without looking down and cringing!
