Setting goals and budget systems for 2011

in budget

At this time of year my mind becomes a mixture of  1) my hopes and dreams for the New Year ahead and 2) the practical, financial side of these hopes and dreams; I face a constant battle to keep the two in step!

For 2011 I’m trying to do a budget that allows us to save for the future, complete our house renovation and also have a little fun on the way….it’s not easy.  On any given month I can feel extremely frugal or extremely spendthrift.  I never seem to find the middle ground, so I set guidelines and use a system that work for me.

The system that works well for me, and the one that I’m using for next year,  is the cash only jar system.  Using this, alongside a budget [guideline] really helps, and means that I never stray too far.  An empty jar is a good visual reminder if you’ve overspent.

Let me know, have you found a budget system that works for you?

Not really. I just look at everything before I buy it and think Do I REALLY need this? Or, in 2 weeks time will this just be sat on the shelf/in the cupboard etc?

That normally helps :)

Great post, I may try this jar method. I think it will be a good visual for me. Just found your blog today, great site. Thanks!
