Target £200 Spent £207.15…much better
I found making a roast on Sundays and then using the meat for Monday and Tuesday’s meal a very efficient way of meal planning, thank you for the idea Jennifer. I did miss budget by £7.15, but I’m still really pleased.
I’m going to continue doing this into October, however for the other four days I’m going to plan our meals around the supermarket offers. I’m also lowering my budget!
October Target: £180

Hello Laura
The Sunday roast and the ensuing 2 or more days meals after that used to be the norm didn’t it. I wonder if the rise in meat prices was when it went out of favour.
Its a great idea for the winter but theres no way I’d put the oven on in the middle of summer here lol
Must price a webber bbq – could do a roast under the hood – all the action would take place outside then:)
Take care
Cathy
Sweet! Doing something similar, though focused on outings with friends. Will post something on that soon!

Hi there-well done on your progress and good luck with next months budget!!
Well done!
Thanks all..i wish it was warm here cathy
Awesome!! Good job on your grocery challenge! We are challenging ourselves for the month of October and are trying for $160. I’ll see how it goes! Our garden is about done but I preserved a ton of tomatoes, sauces, pickles, froze broccoli and corn so we are hoping to meet our goal! Good luck!

thanks kristina. $160 dollars is that for 2?
There’s a really brilliant book…it gives you 52 shopping/meal plans for the year and it tells you how to use the leftovers to make different meals. I can’t for the life of me remember what it’s called or find it online (I have been googling but my research skills are pants). I’ve asked my friend to remind me what it’s called(she’s in NY at the mo, the lucky mare, but will get back to you). J x
No it’s for hubby, 7 year old son, and me! We are determined to clean out the old stuff from the freezers and pantry this month! It will make all of our “new” preserves fit better! I plan on only buying milk, bread, butter, eggs, and cheese. I will “shop” out of our freezers and pantry for everything else. We shall see how it goes!

Hi Laura.
Great job, your difference is not significant. You´re doing much better than me. Congrats!
How´s your daughter adapting to the big city? Hope all is going well.
I just caught my first winter flue, not nice.
See you soon. xx
Hi there,
I saw you left a comment on our interview via thelifelesstraveled and thought I would drop by!
Your blog is excellent and the way you think, I believe, is so necessary for everything that is going on in the world at the moment.
I’ll be popping back to catch up soon! and to see if you make your next budget. We never throw anything out anymore – leftovers become the basis of meals these days!
All the best, Alice
