Saving money – Free toiletries

March 10, 2008

in frugal living

I haven’t bought any toiletries, shampoo, shower gel, soap etc since last year. I’m trying to go the whole year without actually spending any of our money on them. We use all own brand products except for toothpaste and I buy them with Boots vouchers that I get through Pigsback. Me and hubby both have an account with them and you complete daily quizzes and click through sites to get piggy points. A full explanation of the site is here.

There are different rewards available and one of them is Boots vouchers. I now have £20 in vouchers ready to stock up on toiletries for the next few weeks. I always get bog of items and go to the shop when the toothpaste is on a 3 for the price of 2 offer.

Hi again

You have some great posts on how to be frugal, I should take a leaf out of your book and get my act together especially seeing that we estimate we are going to need about €30,000 to do up a lovely old place in Portugal!
We became mortgage free last Nov. [sold and now in cheap rented] and paid all our credit cards off etc. so I’m rather hesitant about getting into debt again

Will pop back soon :-)

Hi dp, thanks for the comment.

Becoming frugal has been a gradual process and is now a way of life.
I used to be mrs consumerism but not anymore.
Getting to Portugal means more to me (us) than a new anything.

Do you use the Money Saving Expert forums..they taught me everything I know ;)

I think you have a wonderful story. I am running a travel website with information about Portugal, and I added your link to our blogroll. I hope this will bring more readers your way. I think that this blog is a great way to share this journey with others, and I am sure you will inspire people along the way. Best of luck.

Obrigado.
