Jumping off the career wagon after so many years causes a strangeness in your normal daily life and for me it’s happened really quickly. Yesterday we went for lunch, a lovely salad at Pizza Express, paid for with vouchers just in case you though I’d jumped the frugal ship, and I can honestly say it’s the first time I’ve eaten out in a long time and felt relaxed ie; I’ve not been checking my blackberry for problems and had to go outside to make a call (had = all my own fault for trying to control everything and being unable to switch off for an hour) There is a big part of me that feels that this is really self indulgent, and I should start looking for meaningful employment as soon as possible, there is another part of me that knows I need a break and came very close to losing it.
So now that I’m relaxed, 7 days after leaving! what’s next? Set myself some goals for the 2010 of course! The financial goals are all set, so it’s just my personal goals to do and there are only two of them:
- Lose weight^ – 40lbs by end December
- Get a job – by end June
I also want to make cupcakes, volunteer, read these books, ride a bike, go to Lisbon, go to New York, finish our house, recycle more, colour my hair, help my daughter revise, eat more vegetables, beautify my blog, use cash and keep the clutter away

I’m confused. I thought you didn’t want to work anymore. Isn’t that why you quit your job?
Hi exe – no I still want to do some kind of work, just not the job I had.
Happy New Year and keep going with your mortgage payoff, it’s inspirational

Your list (I’d rather not call them resolutions!) for 2010 seems pretty good. I especially like the trip to Lisboa (that one is always at the top of my lists!)
I wish you all the best in this new year–much health & happiness to you and yours. Feliz Ano Novo, Cristina

Happy New Year Laura!
Wish you all the best for you & your family.
Nice goals you have there. Coloring you hair
It´s OK to go back to the work force, as long as you keep your stress low.
Cheers!

Congratulations on quitting your job and living your dream.
I have recently done the same thing, and am working out what my dream is!
