Renewing the house buildings insurance

April 6, 2008

in frugal living

We received a quote from our current insurer for the annual buildings insurance cover, which is due to expire this month, for £270.59. Don’t worry the quote said they’ve checked over ten insurance companies and found us a great deal! Never ever just renew in this way, always check yourself.

I went to Money Saving Expert and following the Martin Lewis way of finding the best quote. It took about 30 minutes in all, but I managed to get a quote for £151.98, a saving of over £118. I will be paying the premium outright as the finance charges of 21% APR for paying monthly doesn’t seem too attractive.

It’s amazing how often we’re ‘lied’ to like that isn’t it. So there’s another £100 towards the mortgage, just like that :-D OK I do know about inflation but at least it’s £100 you don’t have to spend on house insurance.

MSE is great isn’t it, I wish there was something like that for France but sadly not. Still I use an awful lot of the other tips I find on there and have got my children starting to use it too.

thanks deb. £100 is better in our pocket than the insurance companies.

I love MSE too!
