One of my goals in simplifying my life was to reduce the junk mail entering our house to zero, so I signed the whole family up to the Mailing Preference Service ,which is a free service.
”What is the MPS?
The Mailing Preference Service (MPS) is a free service set
up 20 years ago and funded by the direct mail industry to enable consumers to
have their names and home addresses in the UK removed from or added to lists
used by the industry. It is actively supported by the Royal Mail and all
directly involved trade associations and fully supported by The Information
Commissioners Office.” From the MPS website.
I signed up on July 17th and last week we didn’t receive one piece of junk mail, so it must be working. Next step is to find out why I still seem to have lots of paper to recycle.

Thanks for this information – I’ve now signed up at the MPS and contacted Royal Mail. I already had a notice on my letter box but it gets routinely ignored by people delivering leaflets! I need a more intimidating notice I think.

I did this for the telephone as well since I’m fed up of being interrupted for a stupid call that I don’t want anyway – however I’m still getting them!!
Any ideas of how to get rid of callers without being rude (afterall it is their job and they are only doing what they are told)?
