We switched our gas and electricity supplier last April, which means we now know the total cost of all our energy usage for the last twelve months; £1.367.57. I know that the cost of gas and electric has gone up over the last year but this seems like a lot to me, approximately £114 a month!
Anyway, as I’ve tasked myself with paying less for all our bills this year than last year, I need to reduce it somehow. The Council Tax and Water Rate bills have gone up in total by about £60 and there’s no way I can reduce these so I want to recoup this money from the Utility bills.
I have two options, stay with the same supplier and get an extra 5.5% online discount, saving us about £75 or switch suppliers . Money Saving Expert is currently recommending that you switch suppliers, so this might be the way to go, I’ll let you know what I decide.

This is a good one http://recessionistasister.blogspot.com/2009/03/get-thousands-of-nectar-points-with-edf.html
but don’t panic your bills are not a lot really, my gas and electricity for one quarter only, the bill that came in at beginning of Feb was £660 for both, we are with southern electric which is the cheapest for us according to uswitch comparison site. I would like the edf economy 7 tariff because of the nectar points!

I switched off our fridge… do you really need yours? Take a long hard look, half empty jars, could be in the cupboard, eggs, shouldnt be in there anyway, cheese, put in thecupboard on a cold board… most veg shouldnt be in there either… make a point of using stuff up quickly that way you dont get loads of odds and ends left that generally get stuck in the fridge and thrown away a few days later, Im fridgeless for a few months now and its not a problem, I only take onedays meat or frozen stuff out the freezer and use all of it that day…
try it…
Reduce your electric usage by getting those low energy bulbs.. Ive reduded our lights from 600 watts to 66!
I use the 30 degree light wash 30 mis cycle on the washing machine now for everything but dirty work clothes…

A choice of providers? What a novel (and unheard of) concept here where I live.
