There are only 1217 days to go until we move to Portugal. A little while ago it was 1827 . We’re about a third of the way there.
Things still to do coming later!

what do you plan to do for money whilst in portugal? – You wont have a house payment but what will you do to pay for food, utilities etc?
Hi escape.
My husband is planning to work. If I do what I think I'm going to do, run a b&b, we might well have a mortgage anyway
Yes, doesn’t time fly when you are having fun.
Seriously though, it always goes quicker than expected. I’m still on track with my own plans and will be ticking off another item next week as I will be flying to Madeira for a weeks recce trip. Really looking forward to that.
Friends who know me as “frugal” were shocked when they found out I would be staying in a five star hotel. All I can say is that’s the beauty of frugal living – you get to spend your money where *you* want, rather than were the “system” says you should (and I’m getting a frugal rate)!
Hi Tony, I’ve been wondering what you were up to. Glad you’re ok.
Is Madeira one of the places your thinking of?
Hi Laura,
I’ve been around and still reading the great blog here, but have been busy at work so didn’t get time to comment. Glad to see you are getting closer to your dream as each day passes.
Yes Madeira is one location I’m seriously evaluating – hence the trip. I have several other locations in mind (in Portugal). I’m also considering the Canaries (Spain), as i’ve a friend there who is really happy with the place and has invited me out to have a look around.
Originally my plan was to extend the time I spend in Asia (mostly Thailand and Malaysia) from my current month or two up to around 6 months per year (spending spring and summer in UK). I was also seriously looking at the Philippines too. But Portugal has always been “on the list” too (hence how I found your site originally I believe).
For various reasons I am now looking to spend more time closer to home, so I’ve crossed off some planned trips to Thailand and Philippines and will be visiting Portugal instead. Another trip planned for november/ December this year. I think you have to visit in order to get a feel for the place.
Funnily enough I’m planning to retire the same year you are moving to Portugal, so it’s been interesting comparing notes.
Anyway, it’s good to be back
