Encouraged by Kirwin at Graceful Creative I started to do my own ‘Throw Out Fifty Things Challenge’
I’ve simplified and reduced so much over the last few years that I thought I might struggle to find 50 things; well I was wrong. I think I underestimated {again} just how many miscellaneous items are contained in a three bedroom/four person house.
Don’t get me wrong we’re not overrun, however if you apply the four ’Rules of Disengagement’ from Gail Blanke’s book Throw Out Fifty Things then we still have far too much clutter.
There are the simple choices like the hat that I had; I haven’t worn a hat since 1990 and yet I have one. Why? Because it looked pretty on the market stall a few years ago and I kept it just because ‘I might wear it sometime’ ?! I won’t. And there are the more difficult choices like a watch, bought as a gift a long time ago, that I never ever wear, but keep anyway. Why?
So far I’m up to 39 items and looking for the other 11.
Do you go as far as this with your de-cluttering?

Don’t forget I’m having a book giveaway this week, so keep looking out for that; A clue. It’s my favourite frugality book!

50 things? don’t know if I could do it! LOL. Actually, I am going to start rummaging thru my stuff to see what I can rid, sell, etc… In fact I did just purge of lots of things 2 weeks ago: a skillet, blender, clothes, lots of books, christmas stuff. Maybe I already hit my 50 items.
Good luck find the remainder of items. Just don’t go hitting up a car boot sale to replace it. ha!

I think I’ll join in with this, as well. 50 things should be easy peasy for me!

I’m doing the 100 items challenge this week! So far I’m at 58 and I’ll be finding more every day until it’s done! So exciting.

I’m in for the 50 item purge. I have so much hanging in my closet that I haven’t worn in a year. I got rid of a unused DVD player (sold on ebay) and an old pair of shoes this weekend. Of course, I bought a new pair as well….
I’m heading out of town on a business trip today but will do the purge this weekend. Thanks for the idea!

Sounds like we’re in the same boat! To hear me talk, it sounds like we have a house packed with stuff, but we really don’t. Our possessions are actually pretty pared down (but let’s not talk about all of the books!) I just feel like I should be vigilant about keeping clutter to a minimum, or else it’ll build back up again.
We’re in the middle of packing for a move, so we’ve definitely gotten rid of 50+ things! It feels really good.
