Price book

in frugal living

I use a Price Book when shopping which is the main money saving tip I took from The Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dacyczyn. This book is my favourite ever book about frugal living and I would recommend it to any one starting out on a frugal journey. Some of the ideas in the book are far out, others are very usable.

It took me about two months to build up a good price book and since then I’ve updated it several times. Once you’ve done the basics it becomes very easy to keep track of and it will save you hundreds of pounds. I keep a note of the price per kilogram of some items and the price per unit of others. If an item that I use is a low price I bulk buy.

Thanks for the recommendation of this book – I’m not quite sure what you mean by a “Price Book” so I’m going to look on MSE to see if it holds any clues

hi qotd
I listed every item of grocery I ever buy and over a few weeks wrote down the price of every item at all the supermarkets/shops I use.
I also worked out the price per kg/unit of everything as well.
I know the cheapest place for everything. If something is on bogof of price reduction I automatically know if it is a bargain and then I bulk buy.
The Tightwad Gazette is the best book ever about frugal living. It’s a bit way out there in some areas but great in others.
