online organising

Organising

I have a small(ish) list of online places that need organising.

You know the little things, the things that only slightly annoy you but you’d like to get done anyway. Well that’s what I’m working on for the next few weeks. Nothing is that important, and it’s more of a streamline than anything else, but it’ll make me happy to have it all done.

  • Flickr photo stream: Organise, tag or delete
  • Google reader:  tidy and update
  • Pinterest: Organise and tag
  • This site: Update old posts, clean up broken links, clean up sidebar, update about page
  • Other site: Update old posts, clean up broken links, clean up sidebar, update about page
  • Inbox: Organise, delete or reply
  • Passwords: Change all

Does your online life need a clear up?

I have a smaller list but it still needs to be organised! Most importantly I need to put my passwords together. For the longest time I used the one password for nearly everything but some sites request a change every so often (work based, but I use my work computer for personal as well) so I have quite a few and often can’t remember what I should be using. Will put that on the to do list for this month. Good reminder, Laura, thank you!

I’m really lax at changing my passwords too – it needs to become a regular habit.

Yes, definitely! I regularly try to declutter the digital clutter:

- “unsubscribe” from email subs to minimise email
- create various mail rules to sort/organise mail
- delete lots of old postings on blog – don’t need online trail forever!
- Dropbox/Evernote: declutter unnecessary files
- Flickr: organise and tag
- Main computer: scroll through archives and edit
- Regularly review list of things I’ve tried but want to delete (Evernote, Four Square etc.)
- Backup
- Backup again!

Thanks for the password-change reminder!

Oh backing up – that wasn’t even on my list. Oops!

Same story here! Still on my to-do-list in January but what I like to concentrate on is my Google reader. When I follow blogs and sites and they have twitter/facebook accounts, I want to be sure I have them there too. Good luck with your goals!

Hi Shovellicious!
MY reader was a mess, but I think I finally tamed it!

What is the “other site”?

I blog at nomorespending.net too :)

Wow, I’ve been reading this site for 5 years and never knew about your other blog. I’ll add it to my list.

You bet! I am organized about cleaning up my laptop itself and keeping an accounts and passwords list, but need to catch up on site maintenance, like the tasks you’ve listed!

I’m really bad at subscribing to sites and then realising I;ve done it with the wrong email address – much easier to only use one for blog stuff.

Yes, & this is a great reminder. Mostly though, I need to clean out my work inbox. It passed 35,000 emails not too long ago & I tamed it a bit, but it’s climbing up again. It’s tragic.

Oh my 35k emails…I do not miss those days lol! Good luck!
