Losing weight in 2011

July 21, 2011

in getting healthy

This is the second follow up post to: Enough for now.  My attempt at finishing what I started in 2011.

Oh no the dreaded diet post!  Ok here goes, again.  I’ve lost a total of 28lbs since the beginning in of 2010.  I had lost 31.5lbs but a little has crept back on.  I [still] suck at sticking to diets.  I do eat a much healthier diet than ever before, but I still eat way too much rubbish.

My target weight loss for 2011 was 30lbs, making a weight loss of 61.5lbs over two years; a healthy timescale to lose it in which gives me more chance of keeping it off.

The good news is that in the main my original loss has stayed off, but I’ve reached a plateau.  Not being able to walk at the moment doesn’t help but I don’t want to make excuses.  So I won’t.  I’ll just lose the weight!

I track my calorie intake (which is how I diet, by counting calories) through Livestrong…which you can make public…but I’m far too scared to do that!  For now!  Perhaps in the future.

Anyway here’s a graphic of the my weight up and downs since January 2010. (I started properly tracking with Livestrong in September 2010)

I truly believe that you can lose weight with just about any method if your mind is in the right place.  So I won’t be changing how I diet for now.  It’s my head that needs to change, not what I eat…in the main obviously! ;)

Well done! I so know what you mean about your head having to be in the right place. It’s been obvious for ages that I am struggling to diet so I should shift my thinking towards exercising. I’ve finally managed to get my arse in gear this week, get the exercise DVDs out and I feel better already. Now we’ll just have to see if I can stick to it for longer than a week… :)

@Shoestring Do you find that you’re more likely to stick to it once you’ve done a full week? I know I do.

Yes – I am exactly the same! With anything. If I can keep doing something I build up enough momentum for it to become the norm. It’s just whether I can jump start myself well enough to get going in the first place. It’s going well so far (full report in a couple of days time) :)

You have done very well so far with your weight loss. It is very empowering when you can see the results of your own efforts.

@Littlegreenvillage Thank you! It is. I’m so happy to have lost even 28lbs and to have kept it off…I should focus more on that, than what still needs doing!

@Tasmanian Minimalist It can be so frustrating (and upsetting). Keep going 8kg down is still really good :)

Ah, weight loss… BIG SIGH. I lost 24 lbs two years ago and have managed to gain about 18 lbs back. Part of it was due to my recent diagnosis, but I know that I have not been eating that healthy. I’ve gained most of my weight back in my stomach, so exercise is the key. Treadmill…here I come…

It sounds like you are maintaining your weight loss beautifully! Just keep at it, and that plateau will be broken.
