living the de-cluttered life

The simplicity of our lounge makes me happy every day.
simple living

Right now I’m really getting into the nitty-gritty of de-cluttering our home. I’m not a minimalist by a long shot (too many dvd’s, magazines and mugs to even consider myself minimalist), but I am very much working towards the (very)  famous William Morris quote:

Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.

Today I’ve slimmed down our book collection and removed the unused glassware from the top of our bookcase. Tomorrow I shall tackle our small filing cabinet.

Small baby steps towards a very de-cluttered life.

My living room depresses me on a daily basis, and seems to end up a dumping ground for everything. How wonderful that yours makes you happy every day! I want that. I already planned to work on that this week, and you have given me added inspiration :)

Hi Debbie – I would move the dumping ground to another room (we use the dining room!). Good luck. let me know how you get on :)

Your lounge is lovely! I agree, I have way too much clutter (read: DVDs, books…!} to ever be considered minimalist but I’d definitely like to clear out a little bit. Thankyou for the inspiration to actually do it! ;)

Good luck Rachel – it’s really hard to let books go!

That owl cushion alone would make me happy. Having a calm living room/lounge is a must for me xo

It’s my favorite ever cushion!

Your space looks so relaxing. You would not need to sit there thinking of all the things you should put away!

Ha! It’s a clutter free space, which in itself is very relaxing

Your living room is so nice! I have the hardest time getting rid of books. Did you have a protocol for which books you would keep, which ones you would give away? I collect classic works, popular fiction, and books on finance! Any suggestion would help. Love the owl pillow.

If I definitely know I won’t read a title again I pass it on….although even then sometimes it’s hard. Letting books go is difficult for me too.

I was talking to my mam yesterday and she was saying she would love their place to be totally minimalist. Me, well I have enough trouble keeping all the rooms just tidy never mind clutter free!!

I can definitely see myself getting more and more minimalist the older I get!

You go, girl! ;) We have started tackling a massive decluttering in our home. I have been ruthless, but it’s hard for the dear hubby! He loves his stuff. Bit by bit we are mucking out and it is so liberating!!

I’m ruthless too – it’s the only way to be lol. Good luck :)
