Hold on To Your Dreams

You may have noticed that I’ve added a Big Trip savings meter to my blog sidebar. The meter has a target figure of £5,000 and is currently empty! It may be empty for quite some time but I’ve still put it there.
If you have a dream of doing something, whatever it is, it’s important to visualise it and work towards it. This meter is there for me to see every time I’m on my blog, the fact that it’s empty encourages me to do stuff to get it filled up.

We plan on having an extended stay in America sometime in the future and although it seems a long way off at the moment, it’s important to have dreams.

We’ve cut lots of things from our budget, but never travel. Being frugal is about finding a balance, and spending money on what important to you, whatever it is.

I’m going to slowly start filling that meter, life’s too short not to.

Living the Rural Dream March 9, 2009 at 8:24 am

derrrr – try again (was on work blogger!) … I think it is great to ‘visually’ see your progress. And it’s great to have a way to focus on your dream. Travel is certainly something we couldn’t live without, which I think is one of the reasons we are on to the next stage of our dream … to be announced on the blog soon!!! :-)

Great idea.

Just curious though – why America and not Portugal!?

Hi-

I just want to commend you on such a fantastic blog! When I stumbled upon it, I immediately went through and read your entire archives.

My husband and I have a goal to move the the Central Coast of CA (not to be confused with Southern Cal!!) and you’ve given me all kinds of motivation to really go for it.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. Good luck, and I’m rooting for you!!

Travel is a necessity. I get anxious and have to go somewhere at least a few times a year. I just started my “travel Fund” with $1.

Thanks Alice…can’t wait for your news

Tony..I have an unhealthly obsession with NY. I want to spend at least 8 weeks there, probably when I’m already living in Portugal..it all depends on logistics :)

Hi Kirwin and thank you for your kind comments. Anyone can do anything with a bit of planning and motivation. Good luck :)

Hi moving on up, yes I agree :)

Too bad you don’t live in Italy. I’d do a house swap.

The problem with having an obsession with america is that it becomes just that an obsession.

Listen i’ve obsessed for the past several years that i want to live and work in america and that no other place will do – i am slowly realising that its a dream and it will never be more than that – the immigration will never let us in full time – so save your money – an extended stay in NYC could buy you years in portugal!
