Grocery costs

in frugal living

We currently allow £200 a month for grocery. The prices have gone up so much lately it’s getting more and more difficult to keep within budget. To help keep within costs one of my non financial goals in 2008 will be to learn how to cook more from scratch . I can cook now but not well enough. I would love to be able to do more vegetarian meals but I haven’t a clue where to start.
I obviously don’t want to pay for any lessons so I plan to borrow cook books from the library and teach myself. The Money Saving Expert Old Style Forum threads are also a good source of recipes.

Yes, prices have gone up a lot. Case in point – a 3Kg bag of pasta used to cost £1 at Tesco – it’s now £2.

Love him or loathe him I’ve actually picked up a couple of nice vegetarian cooking tips from Jamie Oliver – very simple dishes – but tasty. Pukka stuff Jamie!

that bag of pasta was £2.55 in Tesco this week. I know that they kept it cheap before but how they can justify that much of an increase I’ll never know.
:)
