Can I just start this post by saying that I’m no gardener. Our garden is very neglected, but if we want to sell the house in three years time, it’s no selling point! I really wanted to get it done last year, but never got around to it. This year I’m determined to get outside and get it looking good, frugally of course.
I’ve set a budget of £50 and this will have to include the cost of all the fence paint/treatment (?) and a few plants. I already have some pots that just need a clean up.
You can see all the glory of our garden here on my flickr photostream.
Has anyone else got garden plans this summer?

I took the garden back to “ground zero” early on in order to be very low maintenance. It was clean and tidy, but wouldn’t have won any shows
This summer I’ve actually started to improve the garden, rather than just maintain it. It’s looking nice, and it’s a pleasure to sit outside, or mow the lawn, at lunchtimes (I work from home).
I do think your budget of £50 is not going to go very far though! I spent £50 on just five small fir trees to plant a hedge. Admittedly I’ll be getting a lot of plants for free from my parents, and no doubt you will too, but I think your going to blow your budget in short order.
If you do find a way to do it for cheap I’m all ears!
Our backyard is looking fantastic right now, and DH and I keep congratulating each other on doing such good maintenance throughout the year.
Our front yard is a whole other monster.
The bushes are overgrown, the weeds are multiplying…it looks awful. I just got out there yesterday, and managed to make a dent in it. I’ll have to keep plugging away for now.
We are planning on putting our house on the market this summer/fall, if everything goes well. So our gardens have to look great!
50 pounds paint and treatment… going to have to get creative, but you might be able to pull it off. I look forward to the updates.
This weekend, in fact, we are planting colorful flowers around our new shed that we put up. Can’t wait to see more color in our garden. Will be sure to post the updates.
BTW, I love the sitting area you have.
God I could join you on that one. Our garden is a disgrace. Am sure some attention would do it no end of good. I just about have some pots of herbs about the place. and I have grown some rocket. although the snails are munching their way through that which my son hasnt pulled up.
