I received an email (a long time ago) asking me if Mr Move To Portugal’s wardrobe is anywhere near as minimalist as my own. I answered the email at the time and have been meaning to do a follow post for ages…..it’s another one of the things on my list, so here goes.
When we first moved in together my husband had a typical (big) bunch of clothes, 80% of which he didn’t wear. Over time he’s done the usual annual clear outs and has eventually got to the point of owning a functioning set of items that fit in with his current lifestyle. The old t-shirts from his student and Ibiza days sadly had to go, as he happily admits that his clubbing (and staying up all night dancing) days are well over. Lol! Anyway I’m digressing, onto his wardrobe.
He has (and I counted!) 50 main items + 10 ties:
Work
- 4 Suits
- 12 Shirts
- 10 Ties
Casual
- 4 Jeans
- 3 Jumpers
- 5 Polo Shirts
- 4 Shorts (including swimming)
Gardening etc
- 1 Jeans
- 1 Jumper
Golf
- 4 Trousers
- 5 Knitwear items
- 6 Polos & Tops
- 1 Warmwear
This amount of clothing works well for him and at the moment there’s no need to add to it. In fact I’m pretty sure that he hasn’t bought any clothing at all this year and is on a sort of clothes shopping ban without even knowing it! Now if I could just get my two children to organise their wardrobes I’d be living my organised dream
Are all or any of your other family members organised and minimal with their clothing needs?

I really wish I could say yes to this one! But in reality we all have too many clothes! My husband does well in every department except his way too large tshirt collection… He loves his band Tshirts! That and he buys me clothes for any & every occasion that pops up! :/

You have a husband that dances? That’s the most amazing part of this post.
I’m excited. We are about to purchase a new bedroom set (well, used, but new to us). I haven’t done a proper purge in 2.5 years. I’m ecstatic that I will finally have a cute little side chest to put my undies in, vs the wire bin in my closet. Anyway, we are also going to swap bedrooms with my son, so my boys can room together in our master. This will also mean that 2 closets and 2 rooms will be reorganized from top to bottom. Maybe even painted too. I’m looking forward to it.

@First Gen American Used to dance. Lol
That sounds like a great idea and it will free up a bedroom yes? I love that our bedroom is so organised and clear of clutter. Happy purging!
