I added eggs and butter to my box this week, and with the contents of my freezer/cupboards, I should only need to buy milk from the local shop to take us through to next weekend. Part of my reasoning for having the delivery is to cut my reliance on supermarkets for my grocery, as well as cut down my time spent in them, and so far it’s working. It’ll be interesting to see how it’s affected my spending when we get to the end of the month.
One good thing so far is being introduced to vegetables that I’ve never eaten before, let alone cooked; this week it’s chard, which I think is the item at the top of the picture!?!
I can see leek and potato pie on our menu this week and something else with mashed swede. Any other ideas for swede?

I can see a vegetable stew there. Leek, parsnip, swede, onion, carrot, lentils, pearl barley and black eyed beans in a lovely veg stock, spiced up with marmite and tomato sauce, mmm
healthy and cheap! Have a good weekend x

@Fran, good idea. I thought about making a large pot of vegetable curry, but could do a stew for a change. Thanks!

I so want a veg box now. I hate supermarkets and going shopping in them!

Ummmm, what’s swede? Is it in the picture? I like the vegetable stew idea. Also we like to blanche and freeze veggies and addthem to omlettes, stir frys etc.

@Jane, yes it’s like a turnip but orangey/yellow, lovely mashed.

I have never heard of swede!? huh.
There’s a really delicious Potato Leek Soup recipe here (link below). I haven’t made it yet, but I want to.

I want a vegetable & fruit box now too! I started my bi-weekly grocery shopping today and am already not looking forward to doing the rest tomorrow. These boxes seem a good way to go.
Your chard looks like bok choy to me, but maybe that’s just one of those US vs. UK things. Both are yummy. The fruit looks especially good . . . .
