Please don’t be too shocked but I’ve actually done the craziest (probably) thing I’ve ever done. I quit my job. I have a few more weeks and then I’m out of the corporate world. This was a joint decision between me and my husband that will lead to a better quality of life for us now, not in 2012. Without going into too much detail I just couldn’t do it anymore, life is too short.
This obviously makes for big changes, especially monetary ones, but we are still going to Portugal. I’m relieved, excited and grateful; I realise I’m very lucky to be able to do this.
I’m not sure what I’m going to do work wise, but my health and fitness will be the first priority.

Well, not really shocked, I guessed from previous posts something was on the cards. I think you are making the right move – it sounds like you were suffering a bit there and as you say life’s too short. It’s great to have goals into the future – and they are important – but life is lived today and there might not be a tomorrow. Good luck!
Wooooh! Congrats!!!
And it’s not crazy. Crazy is doing something hateful 8 to 8 five days a week and NOT doing anything about. It’s a brave thing to do and I am SO pleased for you
(Crazy is also that campervan in the pic – lol)

Congratulations. Your health and happiness are a priority, after all how can you be there for your family if you are ill. How wonderful to have a partner who supports your decision too. I know you’re on Moneysavingexpert so I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Sometimes you just have to trust your heart of hearts. I know this was a big decision but, you’re right. Your health and mental wellness are the most important thing. Best wishes!!
Congratulations on your decision! It is people who have the bottle to make decisions like that that the exciting stuff happens to (or at least that’s what I tell myself!)
I have recently finished a book called “The 4 hour work week” by Timothy Ferris – his arrogant style of writing will not suit everyone but there is lots of inspiring stuff in there for people wishing to move to find a better life. I keep re-reading bits to push myself along though the trials and tribulations of our own move to Portugal.
I wish you a fun and peaceful journey to your new life in Portugal!

Congratulations! As you know I gave up my job a couple of months ago. As you say ‘life’s too short’. I’m still not sure whether I’m retired or having a career break.
It has meant we now have so much more time to concentrate on the important things: working on our new house in Portugal and garden. Despite the aches and pains of a more active lifestyle – I’m getting fitter and healthier.
I sold my house in UK in order to buy over here and have plenty to live on and in order to renovate our place. I must admit not having the worry of renters is great but then you have the house to go back to if you rent it out.
It’s a difficult decision. Anyway, come to Portugal soon – it’s great!

I am right behind ya sista! Congratulations. Truly envious. But I did think you had a back up career/entrepreneur plan. When times call for it, we make things work. I have every bit of confidence that you and your family will make this move work. Woo hoo!
(seriously, I feel like I am stuck in hell with my job right now and its not getting any better. I am trying to become an entrepreneur in the nutrition field, right now. Have the plan written and am trying to execute it daily to make progress. I am ready to join those who really understand that life is too short and its time to live it up to the best intentions – aka: not drowing within the cubicle walls).
Welcome to life!
