Enough for now

July 16, 2011

in thinking out loud

Before reading Shoestring Alley’s post today I’d already made the decision not to add any other projects or goals to my do list for the rest of this year.  Like Shoestring I feel like I have far too much undone.  And so the next 167 days (give or take) of 2011 will be dedicated to finishing everything that I’ve started.

There’s the house to do list.  The projects list.  The ongoing financial goals.  The de-cluttering.  The garden.  The weight.  The last one being the bane of my life.

I’m becoming overwhelmed and it’s all self inflicted.

So I will decorate (back willing!).  I will practise my cake making.  I will be frugal, perhaps even extremely frugal.  I will reduce, donate and recycle.  I will get hubby to finish the garden (because I have to delegate something!).  And I will cut out the kettle chips.

What about you?  Do you have lots of unfinished projects?

I stop EVERY project at 95%. I look on it as job security.

My main goals this year are to declutter and gain balance in the wheel of life. It is going to be hard to accomplish that in only 167days left to the end of 2011, but I will strive to continue to make progress towards it!!! A book that helped me tremendously was The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. The motto of the book is doing simple mundane practices every day over time produces results. Therefore, I must continue with the bite size goals I have set out weekly. I do need to have a large goal at the end so when I accomplish it, I can celebrate and in the interim have something to work towards! What do you set for yourself so you achieve these things? Maybe you could write a blog post about that!

Hi Misty
Everything I do (the saving, the de-cluttering, the simplifing) is all geared towards our main goal of moving to Portugal, it’s the one thing that keeps me motivated.

I’ll do a further post on it but I break goals down…..5 year plan/year plan/month plan/week plan/day plan.

Good luck with you progress ;)

I’m feeling the same way… Too much stuff on my plate.
Oh well, such is life, right?

@Sandy It can be…baby steps is the way to go, although that can be easier said than done sometimes!

I have days of feeling totally overwhelmed. This has usually been after i have been very enthused by projects and taken on too much. It happens all too easily for me.

The solution for me is to stop, breathe, take a day off from doing.

Then i work out what is really the most important, and just do one little task towards that, eg declutter a shelf for 15 mins, instead of a whole room.

@Little Green Village We are very similar! I’m in the process of breaking all my projects/to do into baby steps, hopefully I can make some progress!

Our summer is so short here that we take a hiatus from projects in the summer and early fall. Our list is endless too. We have loads of odds and ends that need to be tended to at both my place and my moms.

@First Gen American I can’t remember a time when I ever finished a room 100% there’s always a little snagging item left behind! I need to work on that!

My most frustrating unfinished business is my diet!

I’ve been trying to lose weight for over 1 year an a half. Sadly, I just started losing the weight a few weeks ago. I have a long way to go and summer is half over already.

On the bright side, at least I started! Now I just have to drop another 30 pounds and I’ll be content.

I feel your frustration MR. Dieting is hard, it’s much easier to pay off debt and mortgages than lose weight!

My dreaded weight/diet post is coming up later this week..I too still need to lose 30lbs in 2011!
