Has the tree gone?
I would guess that a good proportion of the price you’ve been quoted is for disposal of the tree. If they are trade and take it to the tip they will get charged heavily.
If it was a bigger tree I would have suggested that you cut it by half this year and then take the remainder down next as large trees take a lot of water out of the soil and removing them in one go can cause cracking of adjacent walls but I think you’ll be fine with that one. – Yes I an neurotic about people planting trees right next to houses, especially willows
The first thing I did to the house here was fell a 15 ft cherry tree planted 2 foot from the house.
Anyway I hope it was a calm day and tree felling went well

Hi dnd, it’s been raining all day and the forecast is for more rain tomorrow, so it looks like it’ll have to wait until next week.
Thanks for visiting my blog!
