I’m writing this post after working through the steps in this [great] article by Leo at Zen Habits;
My passion: Ever since I was a teenager I’ve been interested in home design and when I look back over the last thirty years it’s been the only constant ‘hobby’ that I’ve always had, the one thing that ‘floats my boat’.
So, you would have to ask, if I knew this, why as a starry eyed teenager didn’t I follow my passion into the workplace? Good question. I don’t know? Life got in the way? You perhaps know how it is, one minute I was getting married, paying bills and having babies, next minute those babies where all leaving home……and suddenly it’s now what?
So what now?
I firmly believe that the last five years, where I’ve paid off all my consumer debt, become financially organised and taken some time out, have been a stepping stone to being able to live a passion filled life and I don’t want to waste another minute.
What’s your passion and are you living it?

Good question. I guess I’m trying to live my passion….it’s not always easy though

I agree Kat, but at least you’re out there making progress…you’re one of the people I most admire…you actually made the move, quit your corporate life and made a change x

I’m thinking my passion is the picture you chose for for this post, which will also tell you that we might have the same passion

Go for it Laura, from the pictures you’ve posted I think you have an eye for design, particularly minimalist/clean design. If you start a minimalist design blog/business let us know please!
On the question of finding your passion…this is another one of your patented blog posts (curse you) that sounds simple, but which could lead to *days* of discussion, and leaves me pondering deeply for days on end.
Some believe your passion finds you, some that you become passionate about something by taking action, that is, action leads to inspiration. Some believe there is One True Passion, and if you look hard enough you will eventually find it.
I’m supposed to be a qualified “profit from your passions” coach, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned about it, it’s that this is a very, very, very tricky area, at least for many people.

Interesting comment by Tony, it is indeed not that simple finding it or even living it once you do find it. Life certainly gets in the ways and the “I musts/shoulds” as well. 20-25 years ago I wanted to dearly be a high school school counsellor, at the time I had toleave University after one year and go work to help finances in the family (mom and kids). With that I was offered a trainee job as an accountant and having a head for figures and accounting, took the offer and have enjoyed my work the last 20 years. It’s been ‘good’ to me. And can you believe it the other day 2 years ago I decided to do my BA School Psychology (and special education) part time through distance learning and that is where I now am and loving every minute. Even if I only get to do this in 5-6 years time once I have paid off kids’ university fees, I will finally be doing my ‘passion’. The importance as the cliche says “It’s the journey” not the end. So keep going for your passion…it’s never too late
