Deciding where to live

August 28, 2007

in goals

We haven’t 100% decided where we want to live yet so we intend to give ourselves a travel budget of £1,200 a year for trips out to Portugal.

We already know the Albufeira, Vilamoura, and Tavira area’s quite well but as we intend to buy further inland we need to explore these areas as well.

The next visit which we hope will be in April we will concentrate on all the area’s around Loule.

Hi Again

Central Portugal and basically anywhere away from the Algarve is where you will get more for your money. However, although these areas are fast becoming popular with expats form all over Europe the property market is a lot slower than the U.K, this is not a problem if you intend to reside here for at least 2 years or more.
central Portugal has some fantastic scenery, in my opinion far nicer than the Algarve. You have many mountains and rivers. Central Portugal can be very rural in some places so when house hunting bear in mind that infrastructure will play a major point both for you living here and if ever you need to sell one day. Tomar is has everything above, you are an hour or so from Lisbon, it is a big Town and there are magnificent rivers, villages and hamlets all around.
Good luck and dont be afraid to contact me if you need any help when the time comes.
