I’m continuing to reduce our belongings and last weekend turned my attention to our already quite clutter free lounge and dining room – fireplace mantles or small tables seem have a habit of accumulating items; vases, candles and photo frames in our house.
Anyway in an effort to get back to basics and only keep anything I really, really love, I cleared the surfaces. I only put back any item I’m willing to pay shipping on. It didn’t leave much! The result is a lounge that makes me feel calm as soon as I enter it.
Also, as I’m not buying anything at the moment and in an attempt to stop us getting bored of our surroundings, I moved all the pictures around downstairs. It’s made a big difference and the house feels all new again; all it took was a hammer, a little wall filler, and some paint.
What frugal things have you done to liven up your home?

Moving things around is a great idea. I would really like to do that more often, I should play “desert island house” and get down to bare bones. If we end up having to move it will be the perfect opportunity!

Nice one!
I finished phase 2 of a major clearout a couple of weeks ago. I took a ton of stuff to the charity shop. Phase 1 was a massive car boot expedition. Last weekend my g/f was doing a car boot with a friend and wondered if I had anything that needed selling. All I could offer her was one board game that I’d bought for a pound (at a car boot) – so I felt like the clearout had been an unqualified success!
I am getting pretty good at not accumulating junk now. There are a few items in the garage that will need to go at some point, but on the whole most of the unnecessary junk has gone. It’s a great feeling!

You put me to shame! I thought I was doing well but realise now that I still have a long way to go. I have been working my way through my linen collection and have managed to find someone who will take all the extra. However what I have managed to do is generate more washing…………

Oh, I move my children’s rooms around all the time in an attempt to trump organization in their room. It works for awhile. My daughter helped me with the last moving stuff around and she did a fantastic job with the furniture arrangement.
What a great thing to do! That is neat that you are still decluttering and living minimally. And doing it with success.
I need to do that with my living room as I am getting a bit bored with it. Hmmm…
