Cleaning Relaxes Me!

in simple living

It’s been a typical work week, over sixty hours, and the thing I was most looking forward to all week, cleaning and tidying the house. Having a tidy, clutter free house relaxes me. I couldn’t wait to sweep floors, dust surfaces and hang out washing. Now that it’s all done I feel better.

Dh and I are in the ‘heads down, keep on working’ part of our escape. We are both doing every thing we can to keep working towards our dream. When dh changed jobs earlier in the year, to gain experience in a different area, it put extra pressure on me, as I now have to do all the school runs etc. It’s put extra pressure on him as he’s away a lot, but needs to return home midweek to attend his Portuguese class, which he refuses to miss, and then leave really early the next morning to get back to work. Both of us are working harder, but after I resolved to go with the flow and not try to do much else during the week it’s been easier. I really miss blogging though :(

There are some good bits to it. I’m getting to spend some more time one on one with my youngest daughter. I realised this week, probably a little late, that my eldest daughter is never going to be living at home again and it made me a little sad. She’s away at University in London anyway and this week rented a flat with some friends, the realisation that she’s done living at home hit me. She is 22 though, lol. My son is also leaving home  in September to live away at Uni, all my little chicks are leaving home. Gosh where did those 20+ years go! Moving to Portugal is really the next chapter in my life.

Yeah, it sounds like you are going through a tough time with work at the moment. It’s very easy to crack and give up on your dream when the going gets tough – I’m sure you’ll make it though – you sound determined! Dig deep and stick with the plan! All the best.

its so exciting the new chapter of your life starting. Great to here that you are both so ‘on purpose’ and I know what you mean about having a clean and tidy house. Its so hard to relax when its all chaos around you.

I love cleaning up the house too – it´s what I am doing today in between catching up with blogging and posting an ebay sale.
Your are getting so close to the next part of your life- so exciting!

There is always adjustment during change. I think your going with the flow was the right method to take with the current situation. Its better than trying to control the circumstances and make it all that more stressful.

I can’t believe how fast kids grow. My son is going into 10th grade this year and my daughter turned 9. I wonder to myself, how did they grow so fast! Before I know it they will be graduating and fly out of the nest. Kind of bittersweet. I wish you all the warmth and security on your upcoming path in life. You have a world of support within your blogosphere. :)

Oh..how I wish I had my flat clutter free. I have so much to do here, including some repairs, that each time I look at stuff I feel more lazy :) Since I started working at the hospital, most my free time is spent online, groceries shopping, cooking and little time is left to clean and unclutter.
“Empty nest” is not easy…but the good side of it is to see that kids are doing “their thing”. Your kids are young and yet so independent. You must be really proud of them.
All the best, Mizé
