Cash Only Budget {The Jars}

June 3, 2010

in budget

I think I may have finally got to grips with cash budgeting ……

{here they are, in the kitchen, minus two lids}

I have four different cash amounts every month; grocery, social, personal spending and miss mtp’s expenses. I keep grocery money and personal spending money in my purse as it’s easier for me this way {different sections} and the other two in jars; any money left in the jars at the end of our budget month goes into the NY fund jar {a big incentive not to spend anything!}

My kids laugh at my jars, but it’s a good way to teach them about living on {and sticking to} a budget.

I also keep a separate jar for Euros and Dollars, as you never know when you might need those ;-)

Thanks for posting this! I am just getting started with a jar budget now I’m moving into my house and getting back into the swing of budgeting (living with parents = 6 months with very little need to budget = I kind of forget how to do it properly…!) I am really looking forward to getting back into the habit though, sounds silly but I work better when I’m more in control of things like this!
