Be frugal, be green {er}

in simple living,simplifying & reducing

Fru-gal–adjective. economical in use or expenditure; prudently saving or sparing; not wasteful: a frugal manager. source

I’ve been reading this blog a lot; Jacob’s reasoning, on numerous things, resounds with me.  Not because I want to retire early, too late for that {although I would like my husband to be able to}, but because I want to be less of a consumer; extreme frugality lends itself well to cutting down consumption.

In the past I was a master consumer and I had the credit card debt to prove it. These days the credit card debt has gone and so has the need to shop.  Almost.  I’m nearly there.  These days I would rather overpay the mortgage than buy clothes.

In the future, when we move abroad, we will downsize and live within walking distance of work and food stores as we want to be car free.  We will live small.

I’m currently working through Jacob’s 21 day makeover to early retirement, I might even post on it {if I dare!!} ;-) It’s interesting stuff.

As you can see, my ERE journey got postponed. Had to take the hiatus, but I would like to jump back on. Jacob does have great stuff. So, if you post your updates, I will follow/journey with you. :)
Question, future expat. What are your healthcare options. Care to chime in on my latest post?

Hi Christine; thanks. I think a lot of Jacobs ideas work even if you’re not looking for ERE; dh and I would like to be FI in 2020 even with a move to PortugL; I’m planning on posting more about this in September.

Hello there lady. THanks for this interesting link. Interesting indeed. I have been reading for a while now. I am again faced with the real prospect of employment and the need to earn. I am most annoyed as I really want to just play and I do really enjoy my life without this need to work. I am finding myself more and more re thinking – thinking more about again – the whole frugality vibe. Its not just about being poor. Its about using your money wisely. And if I am going to be out there earning my crusts I am sure as hell going to make sure they are managed supremely well. We are so middle class in our mortgage debt. I want to be sorting that out.

Hi Mo; it’s so hard to make a living doing something you love, especially if you have a mortgage to pay; you are so talented is there no way you could down down that path to earning x

Hey Mo! I am so with you on this one. My husband & I want to move to a beautiful place…which means my career findings are not really found here. So, I need to find a full-time gig (doing what I want of course). But I have the same notion…all I want to do is play, hike, garden, cook… LOL. Sounds like I need to find a career doing those things. ;)
