Baby Steps To Your Dream

June 4, 2009

in goals,simple living

Well I’m back from Lisbon and feeling very refreshed, well apart from my calves; when people tell you that it’s hilly in Lisbon, believe them, I have aches on muscles I didn’t know I had!

I did a lot of thought processing in Lisbon and I’ve realised that the main reason I’ve been feeling so down is all my own fault. Having this dream, and knowing that to achieve this dream, staying in my current job will make it easier to achieve, is making me unhappy every day. I feel pressured, by my own dreams, to do a job that I really dislike so that I can start living my life in 2012!?. This can’t be right can it?

I’ve made a decision to change things and if this puts the dream back a while, which it probably shouldn’t, than so be it. As a Lisbon taxi driver said to me yesterday ‘Life’s too short’

Thank you for listening to my whining the last few weeks; it stops now. I’ll be back tomorrow with happy upbeat monetary progress :)

Sorry to hear that your job is making you miserable – 2012 seems a long way away…I hope you can find a compromise to get you there and keep you happy.

You’re right — it’s meaningless if you kill yourself in the process. You’ll get there. {I’m cheering for you.}

Ah, I know just how you feel. I feel the same way and went thru that rant. Tis I have a plan that I still have yet to post about. Its all about how I plan on changing the tune in my life while still acheiving my financial goals. Let’s just hope it works. :)

I look forward to hearing more!

You’re totally right, Laura. It is not worth continuing to be unhappy with the present for the sake of an aspiration for the future. Not that we shouldn’t have aspirations and dreams, of course we should, but the here and now is equally as important as the future. Look forward to reading about your changes, and glad to hear you had a good time in Lisbon xxx

How about changing plans and moving a bit earlier. You can still earn a living overseas but you might enjoy it a bit more.

Lizzie beat me to it. It’s still cheaper to live in Portugal than in the UK. Or do your plans for 2012 already factor the cost of living into the equation?

Hi all and thank you for your support.

Much as I’d love to go now, 2012 is the earliest we can go as I want to make sure my youngest daughter has finished her schooling and is at uni :)

Hello Laura
Sometimes its good to have a quiet time, to sit back and assess our thoughts and feelings. Putting the ‘dream’ on hold for a while isn’t a bad thing, think of it as a review of future investments
I’m sure you will come up with a great alternative to the misery you are feeling at the moment
Take care
Cathy
