August Grocery Challenge – Final Update

August 30, 2008

in frugal living

I bought my last bit of shopping for August this morning and I’m afraid I over spent my target by £54.13.

Final Numbers:
Budget £180.00/Spent £234.13

I’ve made some classic mistakes this month, like shopping on an empty stomach and ignoring my menu plan. I’ve also done too much shopping at one supermarket. I think these days you need to shop around more and take advantage of the offers at all the shops.
Having said that though, in September I’m going to experiment and only use Aldi every week for my main shop. I will still use the market for fruit and veg.

I’m setting myself a target of £200 in September.

How did everyone else do in August?

My food budget goal was $100. I just overspent by $33. That’s what I get for doing all of my shopping at the beginning of the month and trying to make it last. I didn’t work.

I’m optomistic about reaching my $100 grocery goal for September because I just went shopping on Friday. I won’t have to go shopping again for at least a week which means I’ll only have about 3 weeks of September left. Maybe I should raise my grocery budget to $115/m. But no, I bought a lot of unnecessary stuff. If I raise my budget I’ll just buy more.

Hi Laura. For me, August was better than July. This month, which for me started in 20/08, I already spent 250 and didn´t even go to the butcher yet. I bought 20kg of potatoes and more fish. I also had to buy toiletries all over again. I´ll sure pass 300 but gotta keep trying.

Reading this post and the comments has really made me want to challenge myself.

Not sure what budget to set myself yet though.

I go to Aldi sometimes and it is always a lot cheaper.

I did the whole Aldi thing this weekend Rachel and they had everything I wanted apart from raisins. They are lots cheaper, so I’m quite happy :)
