Now that I’m over the initial euphoria of quitting my job, my mind has been spinning with all the changes it will bring to our life. We know that our goals for the next few years will need to be adjusted, but this is ok; we are looking forward to having time to breath as a couple, and as a family.
To stop my mind working overtime I’ve started to create a ‘post it note’ to do wall. When I think of something I need to do, I write it on a post it and add it to my wall; it’s stopped the late night insomnia that was creeping back in.
Blogging To Do:
- Update goals page
- Update about page
- Add a budget page
- Fix some minor glitches
- Upload photos to flickr
House To Do:
- Finish all jobs on list
- Clean from top to bottom
- Re arrange furniture/pictures
- Reduce furniture
Financial To Do:
- 2010 budget
- Update our price book
Other To Do:
- Get a part time job
- Do a car boot sale
- Photograph the house
- Look into house swapping for holidays
- Buy all Christmas gifts
That should keep me going for a little while, don’t you think? I know that having less money will mean changes, but we’ll adjust. Our needs, outside of my compulsion to be in NY whenever I can, are very simple.
My husband is in Portugal on a break with a couple friends and my daughter is staying at her friends, so after work tomorrow I’m taking the opportunity to get some quiet alone time. Bliss. What are your plans this weekend?

I hope to get caught up at home! I took another part-time job — two part-times to make a full-time. Soooo…my house, laundry, menu planning, etc, have taken a direct hit! It’s only for a little while until we can pay off some medical bills. I’ve noticed on your blog your love for New York. Is your main goal still to move to Portugal or is there a new locale in mind? Love reading your blog!

I love your idea of a Post-it Wall to stop the insomnia!
This weekend I am planning some decluttering and to only eat raw food

Hi Kristina, we moan about the standard of the NHS (national health service) here in the UK, and they have made a mistake on something with my own family, but I think we are very, very lucky to have it. Having medical bills to pay must be awful. Don’t over do it
I do love NY and if I could live there I would, but we’re not allowed – I don’t think. So Portugal it is; hubby should be able to work there, the climate is perfect, the people are lovely and there’s sea!
we’re looking to move to Lisbon (I love my cities) to get the best of both worlds. You can fly to NY direct from Lisbon though, I checked

@RML the post it wall – I do this at work in my office, but never thought to use it at home before. When something gets done I just take down the note, it’s really simple
Good luck with your de cluttering and eating raw, let us know how it goes.

I have a very busy family visiting few days ahead. I love it though.
I am still inspired by your post yesterday and aim to write a bigger response. I need a refocus.

Good luck with the next stage of your life! It must be such a relief to have escaped the rat race.
With your determination and focus I’m sure your goal of moving to Portugal will only bew slightly delayed!

I’m very envious of you giving up your job for something part-time. And your post-it-note wall is a great idea. I’m forever writing ideas and things I want to do on post-its or scraps of paper but they end up scattered around the house.

RML, u r eating raw? I’ve been on it for 3 wks with moderate success. Very cool. Just remember to plan, plan, plan ahead (seems to be key).
Laura – I love your idea and your new found inspiration (I can hear it in your writing tone).

I am very envious. And I do the post-it thing at work, too. My problem, they don’t tend to get done. lol. the notes just keep reminding me. Oh no, I take that back. I finally got to take one off that was from 2 years ago. And that was to file a huge stack of old paperwork (I had to because we are changing offices soon.)
