Confess. How many pairs do you own?
In the process of doing this post, I counted mine and I have 10 pairs. Three for work, which I alternate, two pairs of boots, one wedge sandal, one black evening sandal, one pair of Birkenstocks and two pairs of flip flops. As I’m not buying any clothing or footwear this year I need to take care of what I have and make them last as long as possible so I clean them regularly.
When it comes to shoe storage there are several options. I use a shoe rack by the back door and the bottom of my wardrobe, I swap them around depending on the season.
To Start:
- Gather all your shoes together
- Separate any shoes that need repairing*
De-Clutter:
- Sort shoes out into winter and summer, work or casual, whatever works for your lifestyle
- Remove any shoes in a good condition that you haven’t worn for over 12 months to take to the charity shop*
- Remove any shoes beyond repair and take to the recycling centre*
- Clean all your remaining shoes – I use olive oil instead of shoe polish, but please test on a small area of your shoe first if you are doing this.
Organise:
- When all your shoes are dry from cleaning decide on a storage area for them, a shoe rack by the door is an excellent idea
Follow up tasks:
- Go to Charity Shop
- Drop old shoes a recycling bank
- Take shoes for repairs

I really need to get our shoes organized. You’ve inspired me!
I have 10 pair of shoes too if I count my slippers. My boots are out of date. I don’t like the sandals. And one pair I have never worn. I really need to move those space wasters out!
time to ‘fess up, I have 30 after decluttering, I love them all!! I keep them is in clear shoeboxes
Hi there-I have a lot too, maybe around 20-30 pairs of different styles of boots, shoes and sandals. They are all under the bed in boxes!!
Get rid of the shoes I haven’t worn for a year? No… I couldn’t… really… I just couldn’t. That’d mean getting rid of at least 3/4 of my shoe collection (I have about 50 pairs). I’m good at decluttering other stuff but shoes… no, I’m afraid they’re too much of a weakness (we are all allowed to have a weakness, aren’t we?).
Mine live in the bottom of the wardrobe and on a shoe rack by the front door (although that’ll be going one my daughter moves out and removes the 30 pairs she has there!!).
