Today we’re going to focus on all the direct debits,  automatic payments and standing orders that you pay from your bank account(s) every month. In the current economic climate it makes sense to look at everything area of your spending and assess what you need; you might even find payments you didn’t know you had.

This task may take longer than an hour, but it will be so worth it.

To start:

  1. Get a large piece of paper and a pen
  2. Gather your latest bank statement or log in to your online banking
  3. Now list every payment that is making its way from your accounts  in this order-Company/Date/Frequency/Amount
Company Date/Day Frequency Amount

De-Clutter:

  1. Assess every payment one at a time – do you know what your paying for? If not, find out
  2. Assess what you really need to keep?

Organise:

  1. Make a list of all the payments (if any) you want to cancel
  2. Action your list; email or send a letter to the companies involved
  3. Cancel the payments with your bank; online or by letter

So did you find any surprises? If so, how much have you saved?
