52 Simple Organising Projects: The Cutlery Draw

in simplifying & reducing

We’re starting off the series with a simple drawer de-clutter, probably the most used draw in the house, the cutlery draw.

To start:

  1. Empty all the contents of the drawer onto your dining table
  2. Wash out and clean the drawer
  3. If you use a cutlery tray then wash and clean this also

De-Clutter:

  1. Sort all the cutlery into mini piles, knives, forks, spoons etc
  2. Throw out any broken items and dispose of safely
  3. Now assess what you have, do you need 5 potato mashers? remember the theme of this is Less is More. I would only keep one of everything

Organise:

  1. Now put everything that you are keeping back in your clean drawer, knives, forks etc get a section each in the cutlery tray, everything else goes at the side.

That’s it, a simple first task completed and it takes less than an hour.

Breaking it in to little bites is a very good idea. I might actually do it. I have a box of utensils that I never even look at. Time for them to go!

I did this about 6 months ago. Do I really have to do it again? Oh well, if I must….

Hi all thanks for joining in.

I am really aiming for the simplest little de-clutters, nothing too time consuming.

I’m also looking to apply the ‘less is more’ tactic to everything I own, thats why on top of my cutlery I only kept 10 other implements today.

Sharon, do you want bossy Laura or the gentle coaxing Laura, I can do both ;)

Love this post. I’m going to do a bunch of these little projects in the new year. That’s how you actually accomplish things, rather than looking at a huge task like reorganizing the kitchen.

Great post! Can’t wait for the series (though I shall have to save them all up for when I’m back in London and blitz it all then!)

Why not put the tall ones in a large jug? Or have you done that already?
