On my previous post about improving our finances I said that you don’t need millions in the bank to achieve your dream and escape the rat race. I believe this 100%.

I believe that if you are consumer debt free, can keep your day to day living costs down to a minimum, live small and reject a consumer lifestyle, then you can achieve anything.

When we started this journey we wanted to pay off our mortgage by 2012, but our plans had to change a little when the economy went into free fall. We’re now using this year to save an emergency fund of  £20k instead of making mortgage over payments. Sometimes when you have a goal you have to make adjustments on the way to achieving that goal.

I don’t like to talk about finances too much on this blog, even though it originally was about paying off our mortgage, but I feel so strongly about helping people to realise just what you can do with a little planning and a little frugality, that I’m going to start discussing money on a regular basis. I hope this is ok with everyone.

Laura,
I love your blog. Period. I am not kidding when I say that upon discovering it, I immediately went into your archives and read from beginning to end. I was sad when I got to the most current post, because I wanted to keep reading! ; )

Write anything you want to write…I, for one, find it truly inspiring.

hey Laura, love your tips, general blogs and all. Am more and more of the mindset that a rich life is not to do with loadsamoney! (although I am on a quest to earn some – this is more to do with looking after myself financially and paying off our mortgage and being financially free. Like the happy mexican fisherman story…..

I completely agree that you have to make adjustments with goals. Life is too unpredictable for them to stay the exactly the same!
And feel free to write about whatever tickles your fancy :)

Goals are meant to be adjusted as we learn from ourself & the world. Well done for changing yours.
